Mountain refuge Le Château

In the reading of the map of Vercors , this coat appears well placed for those who travel long routes such as the Traversée du Vercors, the GR 91 , GR 93 or the GTV. The reference of Route de Chabinel, in the term of Romeyer , places it in a useful strip between valley accesses and routes that seek to link the slopes, which gives it interest not only as an intermediate stop, but also as a point to reorganize a day if time changes or if it is necessary to shorten stage.

At 1030 meters, Le Château does not respond to the high-level shelter model, but it does fit into a mountain where orientation, calcareous relief and meteorology can complicate progression. In this sector of the massif, the itineraries are not understood as much by a high altitude as by the succession of balconies, steps and plateau lines that force to think well the link between valleys. The area of the Mont Aiguille and the Pas de l'Aiguille is also nearby, where the shelter is located within the eastern edge of the Vercors and its best known routes.
