Its height, 1333 meters, places it in a half mountain strip from which the relief begins to rise clearly towards the next summits. The map should be read in relation to Châtel-Saint-Denis and the small mosaic of slopes and mountains that close this sector between Freiburg and the Vevey area.
From this environment, progression changes quite a bit according to the chosen direction. To the nearby heights there are clear references such as Dent de Lys , Le Molard , Folliu Borna or Cape au Moine , summits that mark a more mountainous terrain and help to understand the role of the shelter as an intermediate point between softer and more serious areas. It is also close to the Les Pleiades , so that it can be used to link panoramic itineraries with others more direct to higher reliefs. This transition of direction and tilt of the ground makes it useful to have a clear reading of the path, especially if changes in the direction or deviations are envisaged.
In its vicinity they pass tours known as the Chemin des Narcisses , Sentier panoramique des Paccots and Chemin panorama alpin in addition to the surroundings of the Via ferrata du Pillier. Rather than making it a unique activity base, this places it in an area with several possibilities of crossing between local itineraries and longer panoramic strands. For those who plan with a map, the value is to use it as a spatial reference within a network of roads where the same day can alternate forest, open slopes and more exposed sections according to the chosen route.
There are relatively close sources, with one to less than 1 km, but in mountain it is appropriate not to take for granted its availability without prior verification. The most prudent thing is to consider this shelter as a support for navigation and potential shelter within an autonomous planning, especially if time changes or if it is intended to continue towards higher levels of the area. In a sector with several frequent routes and management changes, clear references are available and not dependent on unconfirmed services helps to move with more margin.
