At 1,140 meters, it is located in a half-mountain strip that works as a transition between the comfortable accesses of the valley and a relief that gains character as it moves towards the high slopes and crests. This lace helps to read the area well: it is not an isolated location in the high mountain, but it is a useful point to order a day that can start between forest and meadows and end close to summits like Dent de Lys , Lys Derrey or Vanil des Artres, where the terrain becomes more open, pending and exposed to time changes.
From here they pass itineraries known as the Chemin panorama alpin and Sentier panoramique des Paccots in addition to other local routes and a ferrata route in the sector. This makes this mountain shelter a practical reference for those who need to link trace, fail a journey or assess whether it compensates to deviate from a main route to gain intermediate support before entering more demanding terrain. The planning should be done with margin, because in this area the day can change quite as you stay on panoramic paths or look for more alpine steps. As for water, there is a water source about 1.25 km and another one at 1.69 km, reasonable but not immediate distances, so it is not appropriate to have supply next to the building without having checked it before. In an area with several itineraries and increasing levels, to carry sufficient autonomy and clear map of the sector is more important than the apparent proximity to Les Paccots.
