The Plan Francey refuge stands at 1528 meters above sea level, overlooking the surroundings of plan-francey, sentier raquette, moléson-sur-gruyères, gruyères, district de la gruyère, friburgo, 1663, suiza. It is a key spot for mountaineers looking to spend the night or take a break. Its coordinates (46.557, 7.024) place it in a strategic position for exploring the peaks and trails of the region.

If several sources appear at just over a kilometre, a practical but insufficient reference to go out without foresight, especially if the fog, rain or wind force the path to be adjusted.
At 1,528 metres, Plan Francey is left on the hillside and platform of access to the massif that culminates in Le Moléson , very close also to his antecimal. This lace places it in a strip of medium-high mountain where the relief opens to the high pastures and, at the same time, is quickly pressed to the higher levels. The reading of the ground matters: it is an area where the orientation can change much as it is gained height or crossed from one side to another.
More than as an isolated destination, it works as basic support for ordering a day or starting a journey. The proximity of the Moléson gives it meaning for those who seek an intermediate point before continuing in the crests and lomas of the sector, and its position also fits with marked itineraries of greater journey as the Chemin panorama alpin or the diagonal siderist of Freiburg. In this context, the shelter serves primarily to link displacements between the Gruyère area and the mountains that look to other basins and communes around it.
The character of the place comes more from exposure than from absolute altitude. With low cloud or reduced visibility, a simple map approach may become less evident on the ground, especially if it is intended to link hills, high slopes or continue towards nearby peaks as Teysachaux or Dent de Lys . That's why it's interesting to wear clear layout, clothes for sudden changes and time range.
As a mountain reference, its main utility is to offer basic protection within a transit but sufficiently open and changing sector to demand prudent decisions of orientation, water and road continuity.
