Clouds: 97%In Refuge de la Coire there is a practical data that conditions the day from the beginning: there are very close sources, one to about 20 meters and one to about 50 meters, something relevant in a 2059 meters location where wind, cloud or a rapid drop in temperature can change the speed of the march. However, on mountain grounds it is appropriate to have a margin and not to base all planning on a single point of water.
Its position in the Aime-la-Plagne sector, within the scope of the Beaufortain and the Tarentaise, places it in a range of medium-high mountain open to long itineraries. This way they pass or link tours like the Tour du Beaufortain a variant of the GR 5 and the Grand Tour de Tarentaise so that the shelter can be read both as an intermediate crossing point and as a place of withdrawal if the meteorology forces to cut the stage. In this context, more than an isolated destination, it works as a useful reference to divide days and reorganize the itinerary on the way.
The immediate environment reinforces this mountain character. Summits like Pointe de Combe Bénite , Bitch Mint or Pointe du Riondet they mark a highlight that requires attention to the orientation, state of the ground and evolution of the sky. It should not be interpreted only as a basis for ascension: it also fits well in connection routes between hills and shelters in the area. If it is proposed as logistical support, it is reasonable to arrive with prudent planning, sufficient autonomy and scope to adapt the route in case of reduced visibility or time change.
