Mountain refuge Refuge de Conangles

Between the HRP and the Conangles Corridor

The stages of the HRP and other crossing routes pass near this sector, which places the Refuge de Conangles in a passing strip between the Aran Valley and the Alta Ribagorza side. Its location, next to the N-230 in the surroundings of Viella Mitg Arán, relates it to access to the Vielha tunnel and to the Conangles valley, a useful corridor for linking long days rather than for a simple road stop.

At 1555 meters, the shelter is still relatively low for the central Pyrenees, but surrounded by a relief that gains height quickly. In this area, summits such as the Tic de Molières , Pic de Comaloforno or Punta Senyalada , reference of a land already clearly alpine, with divisives, rails and steps connecting neighbouring valleys. This intermediate position helps to understand its function: it can be used to order the approach to higher areas, to divide a journey or to prepare links to long routes such as Foc Carros or GR 18, always within broader planning.

In logistical terms, it is necessary to have autonomy and not to take immediate resources for granted. There is a source pointed at about 1.35 km, reasonable distance but sufficient for the water to be anticipated before it is late or with unstable weather. The proximity to an important communication axis does not eliminate the mountainous character of the environment: as soon as the valley bottom is abandoned, the orientation, the time change and the continuity of the terrain become more relevant factors than the proximity of the road.
