Mountain refuge Cabane de villenave

Between the valley and the Mont Valier itineraries

In the sector of Bordes-Uchentein, in Ariège, the relief begins to gain entity without yet entering the highest mineral mountain. About 1020 meters, the Villenave cabane remains in a useful transition strip to read the ground and organize the progression to higher areas of the Mont Valier . Its position fits well in a landscape of forest slopes, valley roads and accesses that can serve both for approaches and for dividing days in this part of Occitania, near the axis that articulates several long-range routes.

Rather than as a basis for specific summits, this free haven is interested in its role in supporting movements around the area. In its environment there are references such as GR 10 , the large circuit of the Mont Valier Nature Reserve, the crest of the Biros Valley or the long and rond Étangs, which places it in a territory of passage and link between different-scale itineraries. There is a source at about 500 meters, a useful data but that should be taken with caution according to time and flow, so it is still reasonable to leave with water autonomy. Since there is no detailed information on equipment or updated status, planning must have changing meteorology, mountain terrain and sufficient margin to resolve the day without relying on additional services.
