Mountain refuge Cabane de Freychinede

The hillsides that close this sector of Valo-de-Sos ascend to rounded and cords that clearly exceed two thousand meters. In this light, the Pic de Gerentos / Pic du Mont-Ceint and Pic des Trois Seigneurs , two nearby references that help to understand the character of the land: medium altitude mountain at the base, but with more exposed and open environment as you gain height.

Freychinede Cabane at 1400 metres, it fits as intermediate support between the bottom of the valley and these elevations. Its position in the Ariège, in the surroundings of Suc-et-Sentenac, makes it useful to propose a day of departure or to approach with margin the upper part of the next cords, without starting from low levels. More than a passage shelter linked to a great known journey, here it weighs its coat function on a mountain of local orientation and less evident routes in the available data.

The altitude is not extreme, but is sufficient to notice rapid changes in time, humidity and temperature, especially outside the stable period. It should also be borne in mind that the water references do not appear next to the shelter: the registered sources are several kilometres, the closest to about 4.8 km. This requires a careful planning of autonomy and a lack of immediate supply in the vicinity.

Because of its relationship with the nearby summits, it can serve as a basis for ascension or connection tours through the loins and hills of the sector. However, since there are no specific routes associated with the data, it is reasonable to interpret the Freychinede Cabane as a mountain support point whose usefulness depends much on map reading, visibility and preplanning adjusted to the ground.
