Your position, above The Thuile and in the context of Aosta Valley , places it in a mountain strip where the terrain changes quickly: it leaves behind the valley bottom and enters into a more open environment, with high slopes, peders and links between sides. The reference to the Alpinistico sentry of Mount Colmet reinforces this character of mountain itinerary, more oriented to the passage and continuity of route than to a short approach.
In this area, the free shelter makes sense for those who travel long stages or need to break a day in height. Very close they pass traces of the Alta Via n. 2 della Valle d'Aosta and also variants of the Via Alpina , so you can fit as a support point on a linear itinerary, or as a small detour if you want to gain height and reorganize the journey. This utility depends on the route chosen: it will not always compensate to move away from the main axis if the plan of the day requires continuity, but it can be practical when it comes to linking mountain sectors without going back down to the valley.
The immediate environment confirms a marked alpine relief. Summits like Punta de la Crosatie , Mont Monchette , Paramont test or Mont Paramont , all within walking distance, draw a scenario of crest and nearby elevations that help to understand the function of the bivac: to support an area where several ascends, steps and links are concentrated within a few kilometers, with rapid levels and high mountain orientation.
The logistics should also be read well. The registered sources are far away, with the closest to almost 4 kilometres, so it is not reasonable to have immediate water in the shelter environment. On a way out this part of the Aosta Valley It is appropriate to have sufficient autonomy and to review the actual state of the itinerary and of the supply points. At this altitude, in addition, weather and exposure can change the speed of running quickly.
For mountain hiking and trekking in the sector of La Thuile, this bivac works mainly as a reference of passage on high ground. More than for services or comfort, your interest is in the position: it allows you to interpret the area as a connection space between nearby routes, lomas and summits, with a clearly mountainous use and a planning that should be kept well closed from the beginning.
