Mountain refuge Abri de la tour de guet du Mont Ferion

In the alignment of Mont Férion on the environment of Coaraze and within the Alpes Marítimos de Provence-Alpeso-Costa Azul, this coat is placed at a height of 1,412 meters where the orientation begins to really condition the progression. It is not a valley point, but a high position on the local mountain, very close to the top of the Mont Férion itself, which places it in a strip of land exposed to changes in the slope, wind and contrast between more open slopes and more closed mountain sections.

This location gives you interest especially in support of crest or high-link routes, rather than as a simple stop next to a comfortable road. The proximity of GR 510, known as Sentier des Huit Vallées, reinforces its role within long cordals and valley changes. It also fits in a planning of day routes in this part of the niçois relief, where itineraries appear to the Madone d'Utelle, the Brec d'Utelle or the Mine de l'Eguisse. Rather than concentrating a large transit of forced passage, it seems a useful point for those already moving on a network of mountain trails with some continuity.

The surrounding terrain may involve rapid transitions between areas of Mediterranean mountain forest, stony slopes and more open sections near the summit. In this context, the orientation depends not only on the map, but also on reading well why the slope is advanced and how the terrain changes by winning or losing shoulder. The nearby presence of elevations such as the Cime de Roccassièra or the Sommet de Mercurie helps to place it in a landscape of secondary tops and linked cords, not in a valley background.

The basic logistics should be taken into account for planning. There are relatively close sources, with one to about 850 meters and others a little further away, but that does not amount to guaranteed availability at any time, so the water should be provided with margin.
