Mountain refuge Üte des lavandières

Between Obersteinbach and the crossing paths

Üte des lavandières is located in the vicinity of rue du Wittberg, in Obersteinbach , within the Vosgos del Norte sector in the French Grand East. At only 239 meters of altitude it does not respond to the alpine shelter model, but it does function as a useful point of reference in a half-mountain area very marked by the wooded relief, the hillside changes and the closeness of several itineraries that link slopes and territories of passage between Alsace and the environment of the Pfälzerwald.

His interest in hiking is mainly in the network of roads around him. This way they pass long-range tracks and signposted routes such as the Saar-Rhein-Wanderweg or GR 53 , in addition to several classic routes of the Pfälzerwald. This coincidence makes the shelter a practical support to divide day, reorient with map or take a shorter exit if the weather changes or the march is extended. In this sector, where forest road crossings and trails between hills abound, having a fixed reference may be more useful than altitude.

It can also fit as a basis for tours to nearby elevations such as Maimont , Mohnenberg or Schweinsfels , modest but sufficient summits to structure half mountain exits with contained levels and forest terrain. More than an isolated destination, the shelter fits into a transit logic: passage, link or withdrawal ordered towards the Obersteinbach valley according to the chosen route.

In planning, water plays in favor: there are several very close sources, with the closest to less than 100 meters. However, at any exit it is appropriate to confirm its real state on the ground and maintain basic autonomy, especially if long routes are linked or progress is made outside the most obvious routes.
