This mountain coat, within the term of La Orotava and in the heart of Teide National Park, appears in a very high strip of the volcano where the land is already open, mineral and very exposed to weather. At 3260 meters, its function is mainly understood in practical key: basic support in an area where wind, cold, insolation and rapid time changes can make progress very much conditional. It can also be read as a point of withdrawal or reorganisation of the march when it is raised on the slope of White Mountain to the top of the Teide.
Its position makes sense on long ascending routes, especially for those who link from low levels or pose a demanding day towards the summit. The route PR-TF 41 Playa de El Socorro - Pico del Teide gives a clear idea of this context: a very long itinerary, with a great accumulation of the level, in which any intermediate point of protection has logistical value. Closer, itineraries like Seven Cañadas or the Ucanca trails help to place it within the park's network of roads, although not all of them pass through the same level and should not be interpreted as direct access. In the immediate environment also highlight volcanic reliefs such as Rajada Mountain, which reinforce the character of high volcanic mountain and the sense of isolation.
The planning here must be prudent. It does not record the presence of nearby sources, so it is appropriate to leave with the water resolved from the beginning. Nor should it be given more support than the coat itself, so autonomy remains important even in a known ascension. The altitude adds an extra factor: the effort is noticed more, the temperature can fall quickly and the fog or wind can complicate the orientation on the naked ground. Therefore, more than a destination in itself, the Altavista Refuge (Teide) works as a useful reference for dividing, adjusting or even shortening a day in the upper part of the volcano.
