In Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines , Refuge Robinot It fits better as a step-by-step support than a safe haven to which it is appropriate to trust everything. Its location, at 875 metres, places it on a mountain-like average within the forest relief of the Vosgos, in an area where the land can alternate forest roads, rounded lomas and more open sections near the immediate heights. It does not respond to the high-level alpine shelter pattern, but it does respond to the useful coat pattern in a network of itineraries where long-breath and communal paths are crossed.

This transit function is well understood by the close presence of the GR 5 , in addition to GR 531 and GR 532 . Rather than serving only for a short tour, this mountain shelter in the Vosgos can fit into liaison days, variants or stages in which it is interested to divide the route without going down to the valley at all. It also appears in an environment with thematic itineraries and secondary paths, so that the use can change quite as it comes from a long journey or from local routes with continuity by cords.

The immediate landscape helps to read that transition. Very close they rise as Haut des Yraux , just a few hundred meters away, and other nearby elevations like Le Beheux , Le Château de Faîte or Le Pain de Sucre . They are not high-altitude summits, but useful references to be oriented on a middle mountain terrain where the forest can close views and where the soft crests or the shoulders of the relief mark the direction of advance. Towards a somewhat higher level, like Tête du Violu , the environment gains amplitude and exposure.

This should be considered with a conservative approach. The available data do not allow for specific services or immediate supply, and the registered sources are more than 2.7 kilometres away. This makes it reasonable to leave with sufficient water and basic autonomy, especially if used as an intermediate point in a journey. In wet or foggy days, usually in the middle forest mountain, orientation may require more attention than its altitude suggests.

Because of its location, the most clear role of the shelter is that of logistical support in a sector with real road traffic, but where it is not always necessary to improvise. It may be useful to link cords and roads in the environment of Sainte-Marie-aux@-@ Mines, although it is preferable to arrive with the already thought-out stage, the water determined and a clear alternative if the conditions of the terrain or of the weather force to change the plan.
