Link between itineraries

At 1,865 metres, the Pastoral Refuge du Mmres fits mainly as a point of passage within the routes that cross the Madrès saw or link sectors of the Caprado and the high Aude. The presence of Chemin Vauban and Tour du Capcir places it in a useful area to divide days, change sides or propose a withdrawal if the weather is complicated in higher heights. In this massif, the orientation changes are noted in the progression: open and exposed sections alternate with more protected sectors, and this can change both the rhythm and the thermal sensation.

The shelter is located in the surroundings of Le Bousquet, in Occitania, within a wide and mountainous relief where the nearby lomas and summits mark the navigation well. To the environment are references such as the Roc de Nou Fonts or the Roc Negre, useful to understand the character of the middle and high mountain of the area without turning this point into a simple valley background coat. The PR31 Les Rhododendrons route also passes close, while the most extensive routes reinforce their role in supporting the journey rather than as an isolated destination.

In logistical terms, autonomy should be provided. The invented sources are more than 6 km away, so it is not reasonable to take immediate water for granted in the vicinity of the shelter. This distance, coupled with the relative isolation of the sector, makes it advisable to plan well the water load and to review weather forecasting, mapping and descending alternatives before leaving. In a field of changing orientation and with long links between support points, this practical margin weighs more than any other factor.
