At 1320 meters, it marks the passage between an environment still accessible by road from Ansó and a land that already works with mountain logic, useful to be located before entering to hills, slopes and border crossings.
Its position helps to read this part of the Western Aragonese Pyrenees well. It is not at an extreme point, but it is at a point where the relief begins to order the march: towards the valley, as a reference of return, and up, as a start or link of longer routes. In this sense, it fits both on day departures and on continuity crossings, especially because of its relationship with the HRP and with GR-T 13 , which connect Linza to other sectors of the divide.
It can also serve as a basis for approaching the summits of the environment, with close references such as Acherito and several minor elevations that surround the area and help to understand the broken nature of the land. More than by absolute altitude, here the requirement comes from the orientation, the continuity of the itinerary and the changes of slope when you leave the bottom of the valley.
This should be considered with a conservative approach. Although road access facilitates initial approach, it is not always interested to have the shelter as the only support to solve the day if the plan runs away or links long steps. In this area the weather can change quickly and the terrain forces to manage the effort well from the beginning, even on routes that on the map seem direct.
With regard to water, the registered sources are several kilometres away, so it is not wise to take it for granted on an immediate route. For high mountain activities in this sector of the Ansó valley it is appropriate to leave with sufficient autonomy and with the well prepared orientation, using Linza above all as a geographical and logistical point of reference within the whole of the Western valleys.
