In this sector of Issime , within the Lys Valley and the Walser del Aosta Valley , the progression changes according to the side of the cordal by which it is advanced: it is not the same to move on open slopes of alpe as to gain ground to hills and summits where the reference becomes the divisive. This reading of the relief well explains its function, because it appears in an intermediate-high, at 2422 meters, useful to order a journey or to fail a long climb.
The immediate environment reinforces this mountain character. Clear references such as Mont Nery / Becca Frudiera which exceeds 3000 metres a little more than one kilometre in a straight line; and Becca Torché also in the context of the three thousand. More than a shelter associated with a single closed valley, it works as a link point between sides and dorsal, where the orientation depends on identifying well-drawn, changes of the loin and the correct exit to each basin. That is why it can make sense both as a support for an ascension in the area and in a step-by-step format within longer routes, especially if it is linked to the Alta Via n. 1 della Valle d'Aosta or Via Alpina , present in this sector although with variable developments according to the chosen itinerary.
In practical planning, water does influence: there is a source practically next to the shelter, a valuable data in a field where autonomy conditions the day. However, it is appropriate not to base all the logistics on a single point and to adjust the output to weather and visibility, because in cordial areas the changes of orientation are quickly translated into itinerary errors or unnecessary routines. By location and context, it is especially useful for mountaineers who are already moving with loose alpine land and need support to link valleys, attack nearby summits or divide a journey with more margin.
