Mountain refuge Heftihütte

In this part of Flühli, within the sector of Entlebuch and on the edge of the Emmental Alps, the passage between herbous slopes, forest stains and more open reliefs makes a shelter like Heftihütte work mainly as a reference of continuity on the route. It does not stand out for a great deal of obvious access and for its usefulness in ordering progression in changing terrain, where reading the map and the orientation between local roads and half-mountain links can be more important than pure technical difficulty. At 1904 meters, it fits well as basic support to divide day or link different-scale itineraries, from local-wide routes to longer tracks such as the Grenzpfad Napfbergland. It can also make sense within a journey that combines trails of the area with steps towards nearby heights such as Strick, very close, or relieves somewhat further away such as Schibengütsch and Hagleren, which help to understand the mountainous character of the environment.

In practical planning it is appropriate to think about autonomy. Although there are several invented sources in the vicinity, the nearest one is more than 3 kilometres away, so it is not reasonable to have immediate water next to the shelter without first checking the real situation on the ground. This separation between water points requires a good management of effort and load, especially if it is reached after a sustained rise or if it is intended to continue towards other cords. The presence of routes such as Briefträgerweg or Alpweid shows that the area is not completely isolated, but is enough to carefully prepare navigation, weather and time. In a mountain shelter of this type, the main function is not to add comfort, but to offer a point of support within a network of itineraries where the ground can move quickly from clear path to sections more exposed to the relief and the changes of visibility.
