Mountain refuge Hameau de Vaunières

Between Beauchêne and the steps of the Vercors

At 1171 metres, this free haven is left in the Vaiunères sector, within the term of Saint-Julien-en-Beauchêne, in the French Alps. Its position is useful to read the mountain as a link area and also as a possible exit to the valley on long routes. In this environment there are senderist references of weight, with traces such as the GR 94 , GR 93 , GR 95 and the variant of GR 91 , so it fits better as a cross support than as a simple, isolated coat.

The land of this part of Provence-Alpes- Costa Azul blends half-high mountain, hills and wide slopes that force to be well oriented when time changes or the day is extended. From Vaunières it is understood as a practical point for fractionating tours, reorganizing stages or withdrawing to a inhabited core if meteorology complicates progression. It can also serve as a reference for shorter radio exits on local routes such as La Beaume - La Haute Beaume or Le Luzet, although the main interest remains in its role within continuity routes.

It is appropriate to plan with autonomy. The registered sources do not appear next to the shelter, but several kilometres away, with the closest to just over 5 km, so it is not wise to have immediate water in the environment. This distance, coupled with the usual exposure of the passing routes and the lack of references here about equipment or updated state, advises to reach with margin, to review mapping and to consider this coat as a functional resource in a journey through the Beauchêne sector and the accesses to the Vercors.
