This sector of the Central System stands out for its granite reliefs and an orography marked by deep throats that pour its waters into the Tormes valley. The location is integrated into a high mountain environment where the climate and snow condition any activity for much of the year.
The main access is usually made from the Grid Platform, following traces that connect with the network of approved trails in the area. The itinerary shares space with routes of great relevance such as the Senda de la Laguna Grande or the way to the Pado de las Pozas , integrating into the route of the path of the refuge of Reguero Llano. The terrain requires a careful progression due to the stony nature of the firm and the levels accumulated from the starting points in the valley, requiring adequate physical preparation for the alpine environment.
The Chazo El Patillas functions as a reference point for those who travel the central axis of the massif. It is useful to divide long days or as an emergency shelter in the face of sudden weather changes, frequent in these latitudes. At 1900 meters of altitude, it allows to manage the effort before facing more demanding steps towards the summits or glacial lagoons. Its position facilitates the link between different aspects of the saw, allowing to connect with itineraries that are headed towards the Port of Peon.
The immediate environment is dominated by elevations such as High Tale and Morezon , which define the visual horizon to the south. These granite moles mark the transition to the Grid Circus and other major geographical accidents. The low bush vegetation and the brewers dominate the landscape, offering little protection from the wind or direct insolation during the march, which forces to consider solar exposure in planning.
The planning of the route should provide for total water autonomy. The cartographed sources are at considerable distances, which requires sufficient water to be charged from the beginning of the day to avoid dehydration situations. It is essential to check the state of the building before having it for overnight, as its maintenance may vary. The experience in guidance and the appropriate technical equipment are essential for the safe passage of these remote areas of the province of Avila.
