Mountain refuge Capanna Cadagno

The relief here forces you to read the day well. In the territory of Fifth within the Leventina valley and in the surroundings of Piora, the progression changes as height is gained, open slopes are crossed or mountain steps are addressed where orientation and weather can weigh more than distance.

Capanna Cadagno at 1,987 metres, it operates as a useful mountain shelter to order such itineraries. Its position fits well in routes that link the Passo Sole with other routes of the Tesino, and also on longer journeys such as the High Strada or the Swiss route of E1 , always understood as itineraries of variable distance. More than a simple point of passage, it allows to divide stages into an area where changes in the side and exposure can alter the expected pace.

The immediate environment reinforces that logistical role. Very close to the shelter there is a source about 20 meters and other relatively close captures, a valuable data to plan water without far too far from the main route. However, in mountain it is appropriate not to take for granted the flow rate or the state of each point, especially if the hills or long days are linked. The altitude and alpine character of the sector suggest time-space, clothing for quick changes of time and sufficient autonomy.

As a basis of activity, this enclave is surrounded by summits and reliefs that explain its mountain interest, with close references such as Sole Pizzo or Pizzo dell'Uomo . This framework does not turn any way out into an obvious ascension, but it does place the shelter in a half-mountain and high-mountain strip where it is appropriate to plan with caution each change of direction, especially when the valleys, steps and slopes of different orientation are linked.
