The 1189-metre level places it in a medium mountain exposed to the change of time, with ground of soft crests, lomas and nearby mountains such as l'Estivel, Rocalte or Puech Loubier, which help to read an open and fragmented landscape rather than alpine.
Its position is of interest to those who move by long itineraries of the environment, especially the Tour du Mont Aigoual , GR 66 and GR 60 as well as local tours like Les 4000 marches. This network makes it a useful point for dividing days or solving a journey in this part of the Gard, where the traffic of the senderist exists but does not eliminate the sense of isolation when the weather changes or the afternoon falls. Their presence should not be interpreted as a complete logistical guarantee: in this type of free shelter autonomy remains the reference.
That is also why it is important to plan water with margin. The nearest registered source is about 3.5 km away, sufficient distance to avoid immediate supply in the shelter environment. In an area of long roads and variable links between valleys such as Valleraugue, L'Espérou or Le Vigan, it is wise to arrive with sufficient water and with a well-closed route, especially if it is intended to use Cap de Coste as support on a journey and not as a simple short stop.
