At 1,800 metres, within the Ustou sector in Ariège, it is located in an area that connects well with the high mountain that rises to the peaks like the Pic de Freychet, very close, and the Pic de Soune, already in a wider atmosphere of crest and valley headers.

His interest is mainly in the logic of journey. The presence of the HRP in nearby stages and the route Porta del Cel places it as potential support to divide long days or solve links between sides. It also appears in a sector known by itineraries to the Cascade d'Ars or the Cagateille circus, although here it is appropriate to understand the shelter more as a shelter within a network of mountain steps than as an isolated destination.

The name and location also refer to the Pyrenean area that links with the header of Cardós and the certascan environment, a useful reference to place it in a mountain space shared between Ariège and the Catalan Pyrenees.
