Mountain refuge Cabane dels Aiguallut

The Cabane de Aguila , located at 1900 meters in the environment of Gavarnie-Gèdre , it is integrated into a high mountain landscape dominated by large glacier cirches, herbous slopes and mineralized peaks that mark the transition to the massif of Troumuse and Estaube . This enclave offers an open and panoramic atmosphere, where the sense of amplitude is constant, with views towards summits that far exceed 3000 meters and a clear orientation towards the great pirenaic reliefs.

The approach to the cabin runs by typical mountain terrain: well-marked trails in some sections, alternating with more diffuse areas where the reading of the land is key. The gap is progressive but constant, which requires a mean physical condition, especially if material is transported. In dry conditions there are no technical difficulties, although meteorology can significantly harden progression.

From this point on, the cabin functions as an excellent base camp to explore nearby summits such as the Soum des Salettes or Pic de la Gela , accessible on demanding but reasonable days. For more ambitious objectives, the Pic Long or Pic de Troumuse are presented as larger ascension, ideal for experienced mountaineers. In addition, the proximity of the HRP (stages 16 and 17) makes this shelter a strategic point within long distance crossings.

In logistical terms, attention should be paid to water: although there is a source at approximately 1.3 km, its flow is not always guaranteed and it is therefore recommended to provide sufficient supply. The exposure to the wind is remarkable due to the altitude and opening of the ground, and the basic shelter should be considered as an emergency coat rather than an equipped installation. The environment maintains a balance between isolation and transit, with frequent passage of walking trails but without massification.
