Mountain refuge Cabane de Tante Yvonne

Between the Champsaur and the crest of Petite Autane

On the eastern side of the Petite Autane , within the sector of Saint- Jean- Saint- Nicolas and at 1830 meters, the Cabane de Tante Yvonne is located in a range of medium and high mountain useful for linking the Champsaur itineraries with wider routes around the Ecrins. The forthcoming summits, such as La Coupa o Le Cuchon, help to read the ground: open cords, quick orientation changes and a relief that requires to manage well the climb and the downhill, especially if the cabin is used as an intermediate point and not as a single destination.

His practical interest appears mainly in the planning of trekking and long days. In this area, routes such as the Tour du Chaillol and GR 50 , so that the shelter can serve as support, point of withdrawal or stage of reorganization in case of changing weather or accumulated tiredness. It is appropriate to leave with reasonable autonomy: the nearest registered source, Fontaine, is more than 2.5 km away, so no immediate water should be available next to the shelter. No specific equipment or services should be taken for granted if they have not been checked before. In a field of exposed crests and lomas, this forecast weighs as much as its own orientation on the map.
