Mountain refuge Cabane de Luzurs

More than just a road stop, Cabane de Luzurs fits both as cross-road support as a reference for an ascension day. In the field of Sentenac- d 'Oust within the Pyrenees Ariège and in the surroundings of the Castillronais, this free refuge appears in an area where the effort depends much on the chosen itinerary: it does not propose the same logistics who links sections of the GR 10 or TSO 55 that whoever takes it as an intermediate point towards higher reliefs. Its position, at 1410 meters, still places it in a transitional level, useful to order the march before entering more demanding terrain. From here the proximity of the massif of the Mont Valier with summits such as Tuc de Quer Ner relatively close and other industry elevations that reinforce their role as a reference of navigation and mountain rest.

Planning should be done with margin, especially if this free haven is used as part of a long day. In this part of Occitania they come along very different routes, from itineraries to the long and rond Étangs to wide circuits through the Réserve Naturelle du Mont Valier , and that forces you to adjust well distance, accumulated level and orientation capacity. It is also important not to have water in the shelter itself: the nearest invented sources are more than 2.7 km away, a distance sufficient to require autonomy or a prior check of the route. With changing meteorology or reduced visibility, having a map and a clear idea of the passing toponyms is especially useful in a sector where the shelter works less as a destination in itself than as a piece of organization of the day.
