In the surroundings of Espelette and the road of Erreiraki bidea, this coat fits better in a geography of transition to the Basque-French mountain, close to the navarra muga and itineraries that connect with Ainhoa, Dantxaria and the cords that separate basins. This position gives him interest as a point of support on long-time tours or on foot tours in the western Pyrenees sector, with the GR 10 as a close reference within a network of local and cross-border paths.
More than by altitude, its usefulness comes from the orientation of the terrain and the possibilities of liaison with modest but representative peaks of the area. From its surroundings there are elevations such as Aboze and Urrezti, very close, in addition to Bizkaïluze and Iguzki a little further away, summits that help to read the relief and to understand the shelter as support for the tours of divisions and rounded mountains, not as a base of alpinism. There is a source practically next to the cabin, a relevant data in an area where the availability of water can simplify the logistics, although in mountain it is always appropriate to check flow and state before depending on it. It is also reasonable to have autonomy and to bear in mind that, despite the proximity of known cores of the French Basque Country, time can change quickly on these slopes open to the Atlantic influence.
