Mountain refuge Cabane Artiguessans

Cabane Artiguessans at about 990 meters of altitude in the environment of Arlos it is located on the northern pirenaica side, in an area of half forest mountain that serves as a transition between inhabited valley and hillsides that quickly gain height towards border cordals and peaks. The landscape here combines forest environment, grass-clear and a sense of humid and Atlantic mountain, very different from the most high-level mineral sectors.

The approach usually fits well in non-technical hiking days, although the relief requires a minimum of physical form if it is to link with higher levels. From this cabin the mountain is well understood as progression: first tracks or comfortable trails, then slopes more sustained towards nearby summits like the Tic des Estanhs (2055 m), Pic du Burat (2154 m) or Tic d'Angost (2127 m), all of them close enough to turn the shelter into a good point of support for a day's exits with a serious gap.

It is also interesting as a basis for moving on larger routes. In this sector there are mountain references as well known as the GR 10 , Circular Val d'Aran of the GR 211 and Via Calda , which gives the cabane a clear value for cross-border between valleys, cross-border links or several-day stages. Anyone who seeks a concrete ascension can direct the day towards the Pic de Bacanère or combine local paths between estives and ancient small villages of the struggle.

In the logistics part it is not to be trusted: although there are several sources in the environment, the nearest one is more than 2 km, so it is prudent to arrive with sufficient water or confirm flows according to time and weather. On this low and medium mountain the forest protects, but rain, fog and mud can change the feeling of effort, especially in autumn, thawing or after storms.
