Mountain refuge Cabana de Pleta Palomera

Change of ground and reading of relief. The Peta Palomera Cabana at 1.730 meters, it fits the mountain head of Lladorre, within the Parc Natural de l'Alt Pirineu , in a strip where the bottom of the valley gives way to more open slopes, pebbles and cords of a clearly pyrenees character. This intermediate position helps to understand its function: not so much as the end of the walk, but as support in an area where progression can change quickly as height is gained towards hills and peaks. In its nearby environment there are highlights such as Mont-roig , Certascan Nord , Tuc de Montabòna or Pic de Montarenyo , summits that place the cabin in a high mountain setting with a very strong orientation of side valleys, divisives and steps towards the border side.

This geographical setting makes it useful in days of journey or link, especially because of the proximity of the itinerary Porta del Cel and HRP , that they go through this sector of the Pallars Sobirà in stages where the weather and the terrain make planning very difficult. At this point, an exit can start on relatively comfortable ground and end in blocks, ventilated hills or exposed lomas, so it is appropriate to propose the day with a margin for time changes and with sufficient autonomy. The nearest source is almost 2 km away, so the water should not be taken for granted in the shelter itself. In such an area as open to nubosity, wind or visibility, this free shelter works mainly as a tactical reference within the route, rather than as a point with secure logistics.
