Mountain refuge Bivouac Roberto Bonelli

On the Italian side of the Acceglio towards Saretto and the surroundings of the sorgents of the Maira, the Bivouac Roberto Bonelli appears as a simple support on already clearly mountainous terrain. Its 2330 meters place it in a strip where the day changes much with the weather, the wind and the time of the year, and where it is appropriate to read the relief well before extending the journey.

Their practical interest is less in the known equipment than in the position. In this part of the Piedmont, very close to the border area of Larche and the valley of l'Oronaye, it can be used to fractionate long itineraries or to give continuity to the routes that link with the Tour de l'Ubaye , Via Alpina and Sentiero Roberto Cavallero. It is not so much a stay shelter as a point that helps to order stages in an area of steps, hills and high slopes where the accumulated gap weighs more than the theoretical distance.

The immediate environment reinforces this alpine character. Close to them are the peaks such as Mount Oronaye / Tête de Moïse or the Cima delle Masse, useful references to understand that the bivacco is surrounded by border relief, with land that may require guidance and experience according to conditions. It also fits in circular mountain tours, such as the Circuit des 4 Lacs, although the real utility will depend on the chosen itinerary and the state of the land.

In order to plan with caution, it is necessary to have autonomy. There is a source about 700 meters away, but in high mountains the effective availability of water should not be considered safe without prior confirmation. If this coat is used as road support, it is reasonable to leave with a margin of time, determined water and a clear idea of escape or continuation, especially if the day links several steps or develops with changing visibility.
