Mountain refuge Abri Kolabi

Under the loins of Vogelstein , Rossberg and Thanner Hubel , Abri Kolabi It is located in a half mountain strip where the orientation changes quickly between forest slopes, open shoulders and roads linking different reliefs of the Moosch sector, in the Upper Rhine. Although its altitude, about 750 meters, does not place it in a strict alpine environment, it does appear in a transition area very useful to gain height to the nearby summits or to move between sides of the southern Vosgos massif.

This position conditions the progression more than your height may suggest. In this environment, itineraries can alternate comfortable sections of forest with frequent direction changes as they approach crests and hills, something relevant when there is fog, moist soil or low visibility. The shelter fits better as a support for tours where it is important to divide the day, to guard itself on a journey or to have an intermediate point before continuing to the heights of the Rossberg or the Thanner Hubel, rather than as an isolated destination.

It also makes sense for its relationship with several long-distance signposted paths. The presence of GR 5 , in addition to GR 532 , GR 531 and the Chemin de la Moselle, places this coat within a wide network of trails, with the possibility of linking between main itineraries and local circuits. In such an area, the practical value is not only in the proximity to a top, but in allowing changes of valley, stage variants or more flexible days according to the weather and state of the land.

For logistics, it is appropriate not to go out with a minimum planning. There is a source at about 700 meters and others at just over a kilometre, a useful reference if you need to reorganize the water during the run, but it is always wise to confirm flow and accessibility before depending on them. As in many walking coats, it is reasonable to put it with sufficient autonomy and attention to the map, especially if it is to link several routes or continue to higher levels of the sector.
