It should be read as a resource coat. At 2223 meters, in the surroundings of the Plate de Chauvet and within the term of Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye , this small point of protection fits well in long days on the high Ubaye, especially when time changes, progress is longer than expected or fatigue forces to cut stage.

Between journey and withdrawal

Its position makes sense by the network of itineraries that crosses this part of Provence-Alpes- Costa Azul. The passage of Tour de l'Ubaye for GR 56 and the traces of Via Alpina make it a useful reference for dividing routes or having a reasonable exit in case of withdrawal, rather than as a destination in itself. The surrounding landscape is already clearly mountainous, with mineral relief and relatively close powerful summits, including the Aiguille de Chambeyron which help to understand the alpine character of the sector.

In this type of mountain shelter, prudent planning weighs more than comfort. The altitude and exposure of the terrain can make a simple day on the map slower with wind, fog or storm. This is why it is particularly useful when you enter the area late, you link crossing stages or you need an intermediate point before you continue to other hills and valleys of the Ubaye.

The water should not be considered safe by the coat. There are sources invented in the environment, but the nearest one is more than two kilometres away, so it is necessary to leave with sufficient autonomy and to adjust the day to the actual mountain conditions, not only to the intended route.
