Between Candanchu and the slopes of the Aspe

Whoever is organizing a long day around Candanchu can read this shelter as an intermediate support rather than a destiny in itself. At 1,550 metres, at the end of Aísa and very close to the axis of the Somport, it is in a mountain strip where the relief quickly gains height towards summits such as the Pico de Aspe, A Raca or the Tobazo. This contrast between the bottom of the valley and high slopes helps to understand its function: it serves to break through the sector and not to concentrate all the activity in a single run, especially if you link itineraries of the Arlet, Agua Torertas or the Val d'Aspe environment.

The proximity of Candanchu facilitates general orientation, but the pyrenees of this area can harden any access with changing weather, late snow or poor visibility. For water, there is a useful reference very close to the Usla Source, about 270 meters away, as well as another source within walking distance, although it should not be taken for granted at any time. If the idea is to deviate from a main route to use this support point, the decision usually makes up for more when it comes to sharing effort, getting up to higher levels or keeping room for time changes. In the absence of more accurate state and endowment data, it is reasonable to have basic self-sufficiency and to review conditions in the area before leaving.
