The Refuge of the Bachimaña ibons especially as a support for long traverses that cross this sector of the Tena Valley, especially in the environment of GR 11 and HRP . More than a simple point of passage, it works as a hinge between itineraries dating from Panticosa and those that continue towards hills, irones and valleys of the border side.
Its position, along with the set of Bachimaña ibons and south of the lower ibon, helps to understand the area well: an area of glacial circles, lacustrous cubes and stony slopes where the relief forces to read the map carefully. From here the continuity is opened to Brazatos, to the Marcadau Valley and to circular tours that link with the Infiernos and Irones Azules. It is also surrounded by nearby summits and crest such as the Grand Pic de Péterneille, Muga Nord or the Pic Falisse, useful references to be placed on a very open and exposed ground.
In logistical terms, your interest is to allow you to divide long days into a mountain strip where the accumulated gap and weather weigh more than the distance on the map. At this altitude it is appropriate to have a margin for storms, fog or wind, especially if the route continues by hills or high steps. The presence of a very close source, just a few meters away, facilitates the revival, although in mountain it is always wise to confirm the state of the water and not to depend on a single point.
For those who plan a journey, this shelter well orders the passage between the bottom of the valley and the highest mountain in the sector of Bachimaña. It can also serve as a clear reference on several-day tours of the High Gállego, in an environment where the orientation between irones, rails and rocky loins is more important than following a simple linear progression.
