Mountain refuge Refugio de la Pasada

The Refugio de la Pasada is located in the municipal term of Pradoluengo, integrated into the Burgalese side of the Sierra de la Demanda. Its location next to the path of the batans makes it a clear visual reference for those who pass through the lower levels of the valley before gaining height towards the main cords. Access from the urban core is still marked by the textile tradition of the area, gradually ascending between forest masses that define the landscape of this part of the province of Burgos. It is a step-point that forces us to decide between continuity on the bottom of the valley or the beginning of more demanding ascension towards the summits that close the southern horizon.

The link between the valley and the Demanda summits

The navigation through this area is based on the dense network of paths that converge near the installation. The Refuge de la Pasada acts as a strategic knot for those who travel the GR 290 or Route Dos Aguas, as well as for the users of the small route paths PRC-BU 59, PRC-BU 60 and PRC-BU 61. These itineraries, which include the Nacedero Path and the Senda de la Muñeca, allow the articulation of circular or linear traverses, connecting with high points such as the Guirlando Cross or the Deer Majada. For the mountaineer who uses the map as the main tool, this free shelter facilitates the orientation in the transition to larger objectives, such as the ascension to Torruco Zarzabala or to Cabeza Aguilez, placing the walker in the right disposition to face the massif levels.

The management of mountain autonomy is a determining factor in using this construction located at 1057 meters of altitude. Although the area has a friendly orography at its low levels, the nearest water sources are located more than two kilometres away, requiring a water load forecast before reaching the position of the building. As a free shelter, its function is to provide a basic and technical guard, with no care or guaranteed equipment, which forces to carry everything necessary for the stay. Its relevance as a point of support is evident by planning routes to the Picote las Cabezas or by passing between the valleys that connect Santa Cruz del Valle Urbión to the environment of Pradoluengo, consolidating itself as a constant security reference for those who explore the cords of the area and require a precise geographical control point before facing more isolated sections.
