Its location at the end of Albany à , within the High Garrotxa and next to the GR 11 , places it in a step point rather than in a simple, isolated coat. It also fits into Tramuntana's Route of 4 refugis, so it can be used to break long days between the ampurdane interior and the calcareous saws of this prepirenaian sector. Although not in strict high mountain, its 810 m is enough to mark an atmosphere of abrupt half mountain, with broken relief and important orientation as soon as the valley bottom is left. The proximity of the Puig de Bassegoda helps to understand its geographical role: the shelter is associated with the corral and the slopes that articulate the accesses between Albanyà, hills and links to other nearby headers.

To plan the day it is necessary to think about autonomy. The routes that pass through the area give you the traffic of the senderist, but the terrain of the Alta Garrotxa does not always allow you to advance as quickly as the maps suggest: there are short but repeated levels, orientation changes and sections where the continuity of the itinerary greatly conditions the schedule. In this context, the mountain shelter in the Bassegoda environment is useful as logistical support for those who link stages or seek to divide crest and valley routes. In contrast, the water does not appear especially close: the nearest source recorded, La Font Fresca it is more than 4 km away, so it is not necessary to have immediate supply in the vicinity. If there is a journey through this sector, it is reasonable to go out with sufficient water and to review before the actual state of the itinerary and of the supply points, especially in dry periods or after episodes of heat.
