Mountain refuge Refugi Bages

The approach to Reugi Bages moves in the open and high terrain of Port del Comte , in the end of the Coma i la Pedra, within the Prepirineo Catalan. At 1,768 meters, the shelter is left in a strip where the forest loses its protagonism and the calcareous relief of the massif marks the orientation, with wide loops, rapid changes of time and a sense of mountain high rather than of the enclosed valley.

Its position fits well in the water divide between the Cardener and Segre basins, a geographical detail that helps to understand the character of the place: exposed accesses, ground that can be made uncomfortable with fog or wind and a network of itineraries that connects more by cords and hills than by valley bottom trails. In the immediate environment, references such as Cap d'Urdiets or Puig de les Morres , nearby peaks that place the shelter in a landscape of medium and high prepirenaica mountain.
