Between crossing and karmic terrain

In a long climb or as a link between the routes of the massif, Refuge de Platé fits better as day support than as an isolated destination. It is located at 2032 meters, in the sector of Passy, within the Alta Savoy, and is associated with the road of the Désert de Platé, a name that already guides on the character of the land: open spaces, dominant minerality and less kind progression than on valley trails. The approach may involve a clear transition between more herbous or forest areas and a more stony environment, where the continuity of displacement and the reading of the land gain weight.

Their practical interest is increased by the relationship with signposted routes of different scope. In the environment the GR 96 , in addition to circular tours and local tours such as Bouchle du Lac Vert or Tour de l'Arbaron, which makes it a useful reference for planning links, dividing stages or lengthening a mountain exit. The connection with the GRV is also included, although its scale is very different and it is better to understand it as a context of the network of paths rather than as simple direct access.

The environment of Platé often attracts mountaineers who move well on long routes, with changes of firm and variable orientation. There are no data here that allow it to be presented as a basis for concrete ascension, but it is as a point of passage or protection in an area where logistics matters. The altitude and exposure of the relief advise a good look at the weather before leaving, especially if fog, wind or rapid time changes are expected.

As for water, the registered sources do not appear attached to the shelter: the nearest one is more than 2.3 km. This requires self-planning and no immediate supply in the vicinity. For reasonable route planning it is appropriate to leave with a water margin, to review the exact route of access and to confirm on the ground any supply point before relying on it.
