At 1,400 meters, its position helps to understand the area well: it is not in a valley bottom, but in a high strip from which hillsides, combes and cross-roads are linked that connect with the sector of the Parmelan . This context places it in a field of transition between forest, pasture and calcareous relief, where the direction of the itinerary and the continuity of the path matter more than the distance on the paper.
For hiking on this part of the Alta Savoy, it works mainly as a support point on day routes or as a step within wider routes. In its surroundings there are traces known as the Bouchle du Parmelan, the GR 96 , the Tour du Lac d'Annecy or the GRP of the Tournette- Aravis Massif, although the real utility of the shelter will depend on the chosen access and the meaning of the march. There is no data here to present it as a basis for concrete ascension, but it does fit into a network of itineraries with sustained levels and mountain terrain where it is appropriate to have physical margin and good map reading.
In the practical part, the most useful reference is the presence of a source at about 900 metres, a reasonable distance but not to be interpreted as an absolute guarantee of supply at any time. If there is a long journey or climb through the Combe d'Ablon and nearby roads, it is wise to leave with water autonomy and sufficient equipment for time changes. In this type of location, meteorology, soil moisture and relative isolation weigh more than the administrative closeness to cores such as Dingy-Saint-Clair, Alex or La Balme-de-Thuy.
