Mountain refuge Cabane de Motte

Stilted ladders, it highlights that it rises quickly and an already clearly mountainous environment mark this sector of Gèdre, in the French High Pyrenees. In this context, the Cabane de Motte at 1393 meters, in the surroundings of Pont de la Crabiou, as a mountain shelter that fits more in a prudent planning than in an improvised exit. The height is not extreme, but the proximity of much higher peaks and peaks makes time can change quickly and the ground gains severity as it rises. The geographical reference is useful: it moves in the orbit of the Néouvielle massif and in a strip where the access valley contrasts with a horizon dominated by more alpine profiles.

Its role makes sense, above all, in support of a transition area between a more serious valley and mountain background. Nearby are the Soum de Marraut, very close in terms of linear distance, and mountains of greater entity such as Pic Long, Pic Badet or Pic de Néouvielle, which help to understand the character of the environment even if they do not allow to deduct direct itineraries from the cabin. There are no specific data on associated routes, so it is appropriate not to have marked links or defined stages without prior on-the-spot verification. Water also deserves attention: the nearest registered source is just over 3 km away, so it is not appropriate to take for granted an immediate availability next to the shelter. For those who value this point as logistical support, it is reasonable to provide for basic autonomy, to review meteorology and cartography and to take into account that, even if it is not at a very high level, the relative isolation and the proximity of mountains that far exceed 3000 meters make the day conditional.
