At more than 2,100 meters, on the side of Savignac-les-Ormeaux and next to the axis of rise of the Pic de Rulhe , this coat is located in a clearly high mountain stretch: open terrain, relief of ponds and lomas, and a weather exhibition that should be read well before leaving. The Cabane de l'Etang d'Embizon It fits above all as an intermediate point to divide day or gain height in a journey through the eastern sector of the Ariège, near long-distance itineraries that link with Andorra and with the great pirenaic journey.

Its position makes sense for those who move between steps of height and lakes, rather than as a valley shelter. In this context, the cabin can support links with the GR 10 , HRP or the return of Andorra, always within a flexible and mountainous planning. The immediate environment reinforces this character: cias such as the Pic Redon, the Pyramide de Lherbes or the Pic de l'Albe help to understand that it is a broken area, with important orientation and progression conditioned by the meteor.

The practical issue here is autonomy. Although there are sources registered in the area, the nearest ones are far away, from about 6.9 km, so safe water is not necessary in the vicinity of the shelter. For a night or to use it as road support, it is reasonable to go up with sufficient reserve and review the state of the water points before the activity.

By altitude and location, this free shelter calls for time changes, night cold and fog. More than a destination in itself, it works as a useful reference in a field where logistics weighs as much as orientation.
