Mountain refuge Cabane de Hautacam

Between the journey and the day of crest

The Hautacam area combines high pastorile relief, wide lomas and rounded summits, with a land that is not always interpreted as alpine but that requires planning when the day is extended. They also pass through local routes such as the Bouchle des Sins, the Bouchle Juncalas- Cheust or the Bouchle Juncalas- Ourdis, in addition to the itinerary to the Pic du Pibeste , which places the shelter in a road traffic area rather than in an isolated valley bottom. However, it should be put forward with a logic of autonomy: the invented sources are several kilometres away, so it is not wise to have immediate water in the vicinity without having checked it before.

As a reference of orientation, there are close elevations such as Soum de Trezères , very close, and beyond the Pic of Naouit or the Pic of Nerbiou. They do not necessarily make the cabin the basis of long ascension, but they do help to understand their position on the Hautacam reliefs and their usefulness in linking cords, half-mountain tours and transition stages.
