Mountain refuge Cabane de Beze

Between Gestiès and the cords of the Ariège

Cabane de Beze is located over Gestiès, in the upper sector of the Ariège, at 2175 meters. This level places it in a clearly montane environment, already above the continuous forest and close to reliefs where the land gains character of a journey. In this context, it fits better as a step-by-step coat or support for those who move on several-day routes than as a simple short-walk destination.

Their interest is growing for mountaineers who link long days. The closeness of the GR 10 and a variant of HRP It makes it a useful reference to fractionate the route, reorganize a stage or raise a link between valleys and hills of the area. It can also serve as a basis for moving towards the Col de Gamel or to explore high-rise itineraries of the surroundings of Beille, always with mountain logic and not of conditioned route.

The next relief reinforces that profile. In a relatively short radio, summits such as the Pic du Pas de Bouc , Pic des Redouneilles or Pic de Bourbonne , all of them sufficient to understand that the shelter is in an interesting position for simple alpine exits on the map, but demanding if there is fog, wind or wet terrain. The proximity of these peaks should not be interpreted as immediate or uniform access.

In the logistics part, the most important data is water. The nearest invented sources are more than 4 km away, so it is not wise to have immediate supply next to the shelter. For one night or to use it within a journey, it is reasonable to reach with water autonomy and check conditions before leaving.

Because of its location and the network of routes around it, this shelter is especially useful for hiking experienced in the orientation and management of long stages in French Pyrenees. Less as an isolated point of visit, more as an intermediate piece within a path of crest, hills and links between valleys.
