Mountain refuge Cabane de Arcouzan

The Cabane de Arcouzan at 1380 m of altitude in the forest environment of the bois du Puech d'Aula , is located on the French side of the Ariège, within the great Pyrenees that leads to the Réserve Naturelle du Mont Valier . The landscape here combines forest slopes, wet rails and a progressive transition to more open and alpine terrain as you gain height in the direction of the cords. It is a very interesting location for those looking for a relatively low base from which to remount into more severe high mountain environments.

The approach is moved on typical pyrenean terrain: mountain trails with a sustained level, sections of forest and orientation that should be well prepared if long routes are linked. From this area its value is well understood as a point of passage or small base camp for entity objectives. The Pic de Fonta , Tuc de Quer Ner and Pic de Trémul , which opens up options for demanding exits, crest crossings or liaison days.

In the area key, the cabin is well positioned with respect to long-range routes and lacustrous routes. The journey of the Étangs Long et Rond , about 14.5 km, fits as a full mountain excursion, while the route du Port de Salau , GR 10 in its pyrenaic section and the large circuit of Mont Valier they strengthen their interest for those who plan several days linking valleys and hills. Although there are several sources in the wide environment, the nearest one is more than 3 km away, so it should water before spending the night or going out to high levels. In this area time can change quickly and, by leaving the forest coat, the wind and the exhibition gain prominence.
