Planning and autonomy

In this cabin the most useful thing to plan in advance is autonomy. At 1.597 meters, on the side of Cazaux-Fréchet-Anéran-Camors and within the Louron sector, it works mainly as a support on a mountain day where it is necessary to leave with determined water and room for time changes. The invented sources are relatively far away: the nearest one appears about 2.35 km away, so it is not appropriate to have an immediate supply next to the shelter.

The surroundings fit into the upper half mountain of the French Pyrenees, with access by paths linking pastoral slopes and nearby crests. Its position makes sense for those who move between local itineraries of the valley and longer routes, as in the area they agree as the journey of the GR 10 , the Sentier des Mélèzes and the Chemin des esstives. More than an isolated destination, it acts as a point of passage or support to divide variable routes through the Vallée du Louron and the links to the Larbust and Oueil.

It can also serve as a sober basis for approaching forthcoming summits. The Sommet de l'Aigle is very close in general line of relief, while the Mont Né gives a more alpine reference to the whole and appears linked to several itineraries of the area. This combination requires a good reading of the ground, because the utility of the shelter depends less on known services and more on prudent planning: sufficient water, clear orientation on the map and weather forecast before entering the height.
