Mountain refuge Cabana de la Roca del Turmo

On the side of Castanese, within the term of Montanuy and on the way from Basibe to Castanese, the Cabana de la Roca del Turmo appears in a mountain strip where access already requires a good measure of effort. Its 1896 meters place it above the lowest forest and close to a more open terrain, useful as support in itineraries that seek to link basins and hills of the Ribagorza. In this sector, long-range strands such as the GR 18 , HRP 21.2 and the step between Cap de Llauset and the Nestui Bordas, so it can fit both in cross-sectional and in days that go up to nearby thighs and peaks, including the Pico de Castanesa or the Tuca de Bacir.

More than as a destination in itself, it is appropriate to understand this free haven as a point of protection within an environment where the continuity of the terrain and the weather can change the day. The area links with the Baliera Valley and the mountain area leading to Llauset and, further, to the Vallibierna massif, although it is not appropriate to have this cabin as the only logistical support if the plan depends on adjusted times or to find resources on the way. The data of water requires to be conservative: the registered sources are several kilometres away, so it is reasonable to leave with sufficient autonomy and confirm before the route any reliable point of supply. On long or link routes, this forecast weighs as much as the direction of the itinerary.
