At the crossing of alpine itineraries

Among the routes that go through Clavalité and the crossing stages of the High Via 2 , this bivacco fits above all as a point of passage and day readjustment. It does not stand out for proximity to an inhabited core, but for its position in a sector where the advance changes according to which slope, hill or valley is continued. That detail matters: in this part of the Aosta Valley the same day can go from a path more laid to a field more exposed to the wind and to height in very little margin.

Guidance and progression

The Bivacco Rotary Club Clavalité - Egidio Borroz , within the term of Fénis , is located at 2,156 meters and works well to divide long itineraries or to stop progression when weather, tiredness or time do not advise to follow. Towards this environment, summits such as Thermal Point and Mont Glacier , which help to understand the character of the terrain: open mountain, with orientation changes that can change the thermal sensation, visibility and speed of running. The area has a clearly mountainous vocation and the shelter is better understood as strategic support than as the end of the walk.

In the logistics part, isolation weighs more than comfort. The registered sources are several kilometres away, so it is necessary to leave with sufficient water and real autonomy for time changes or delays. If it is raised as a mountain shelter on the cordal of Clavalité its usefulness increases precisely in dubious days: when it is interested to cut a stage, to keep room before a higher step or to prevent a bad orientation at the end of the afternoon from unnecessarily lengthening the day.
