Access and autonomy

Before you put it as a stop, you should have water from the start or provide it with a margin: the registered sources are more than 2 km away, so Abri Kutzig should not be understood as a coat with immediate supply. This limitation is quite a condition of its use, especially in long days or in heat, and requires the organization of the approach with a more mountainous rather than recreational logic.

The coat is located in the surroundings of Ribeauvillé, in the Upper Rhine, within the wooded and undulating relief of Alsace. Its 940 meters of altitude place it at a medium-high level for the area, enough to notice changes in time, humidity and a more exposed sense of terrain than its altitude may suggest. It's close. Le Ramelstein which is about 1,000 meters, and helps to understand the character of the sector: lomas and summits linked by mountain roads, without alpine environment, but with direction and continuity of march.

In this context, their interest is above all in providing support within broader routes. The closeness of the GR 5 , of GR 532 , the Sentier des Ducs and the Chemin des Châteaux Lincold'Alsace integrate it into a network of medium and long distance routes where a free coat can help to fail stages or cover a simple withdrawal if time changes. It can also fit into local circuits that cross this sector between forest crest and historical roads.

By type of access and by the need to manage water and guidance, it is more useful for people who are used to continuous days than for those who seek a short exit with close services. The reference to the Great Verrerie in the environment of the road helps to place it on the map, but it is still recommended to review the specific itinerary, the meteorology and the basic logistics before leaving.
