Mountain refuge Abri du Saleyron

More than an ascension base, Abri du Saleyron better fit as a walking coat within the Work of -of -Virac on the edge of the itineraries that travel the Gorges de l'Ardèche . Its position, next to the chemin du pont d'arc à Labastide and close to senderist variants such as the GR 4B or the Sentier amont des Gorges de l'Ardèche, places it in a field where it may be useful to break a day, to guard itself in route or to value a small detour from the main route. At 370 meters of altitude, the context is not of classical alpine shelter, but of calcareous relief, open rails and plateaus, with orientation and exposure that should be read well on the map.

The immediate environment refers to the lower section of the Ardèche River and its network of trails on canyons and rock platforms. In this type of landscape, the progression depends less on the altitude than on the continuity of the road, the heat, the rock and the real distance between the support points. The reference of the Aiguille de Gournier is also near, rather as an element of geographical context than as a direct target from this coat. Therefore, if this mountain shelter is to be used as road support, it is preferable to arrive with sufficient water and clear navigation, especially if local variants or longer stages of the sector are linked. The weather on the throats and plateaus of the Ardèche can change the demand for a short route on the map, especially by insolation, wind and stony terrain.
