Refuge du Pigeonnier It appears in a half-mountain area very walking, within the Alsatian environment and near the regional natural park of the Vosgos del Norte. The D 3 reference helps to place it on the map, but its real interest is in how it is integrated into a dense network of signposted itineraries. This way they pass or confluate long-range tracks like the Saar-Rhein-Wanderweg , Saar-Pfalz-Weg and several itineraries of the Pfälzerwald, so that it can serve to fail stages, adjust a journey or solve a day that is longer than expected.
It does not stand out for the alpine environment or for the high immediate levels, but for its practical role in a wooded, undulating terrain with numerous crosses of trails. In this context, the shelter also acts as a reference of orientation: a recognizable point for ordering map navigation when different marks are linked or a passing area between Alsace and the Palatinate is crossed. Close mores such as Prostberg or Alschberg reinforce this soft relief character, more linked to continuous progression than to an isolated ascension.
In logistics, the most useful data is the presence of a source about 16 meters, very close to the shelter. However, in the mountains it is appropriate to assess the actual flow and potability before relying on it as the only supply. Other sources also appear further away, but no longer perform the same immediate function for a short stop or a stage end.
For those who plan access, the key is not so much the punctual hardness as the management of the effort and the links between paths. In an area with quite a hiker transit, this coat makes sense as an intermediate support, as a clear reference on the ground and as a point of reorganizing water, map and next stretch of march.
