At the head of Alins, the land becomes clearly alpine. Baborte shelter it fits into that high stretch of the Pallars Sobirà where long traverses and ascent begin to cross with a relief of hills, lakes and pedestres. Its position within the scope of Porta del Cel and in the passage of stages of the HRP It makes it a logical support for days of link between valleys or to fail demanding tours in the border environment.

From here, the most clear mountain reference is the group of three thousand that form the Pica d'Estats , Pic de Sotllo and the sector of Canalbona, all very close in mountain line. This closeness explains well the character of the shelter: not so much a valley background coat, but an advanced point to move on the high ground, exposed to rapid changes of time and with an orientation that gains importance as the most obvious path is abandoned. At 2430 meters, the atmosphere is already high mountain pirenaica and access requires physical continuity, especially if it arises within a long journey.

Although it passes a known route, it remains a rather isolated location. It is not necessary to have immediate water next to the shelter: the registered sources are several kilometres away, so it is prudent to arrive with sufficient autonomy and to review conditions before departure. In this area of Alt Pirineu Natural Park , weather, fog and the state of the ground can weigh more than the distance on the map.
